Low pH. Multi-Use Format. Standard Size.
Research-grade bacteriostatic water in a 10ml vial with a pH that runs well below most generic water, and typically below Hospira’s. Suited to the finicky, pH-sensitive peptides that are normally paired with Hospira, at the economical size.
What It Is
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol to inhibit bacterial growth. This is our 10ml research-grade format, and it is not typical generic water: its pH runs markedly low, with recent lots testing at pH 5.3 to 5.4 on the certificate, which is typically lower than Hospira brand water. That makes it appropriate for the finicky, pH-sensitive peptides where Hospira is normally recommended; in practice there are no issues reconstituting sensitive compounds in it.
How It Works
The 0.9% benzyl alcohol inhibits bacterial growth, giving the solution a longer usable life after the stopper is punctured than plain sterile water — the reason it is the standard reconstitution diluent.
- Low-pH research-grade reconstitution solution
- 10ml vial — economical for routine reconstitution
- Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol
- Recent lots at pH 5.3 to 5.4: below most generic water, typically below Hospira
- Suitable for finicky, pH-sensitive peptides that usually call for Hospira
- Longer usable life once punctured
Research Context
A research-grade 10ml bacteriostatic water whose low pH is verified lot by lot on the certificate below. It handles routine reconstitution and the sensitive, pH-dependent peptides alike; the Hospira 30ml remains on the shelf for labs whose protocols specify a pharmaceutical-brand diluent.
pH first, purity second. On a diluent the number that matters is the pH of the water going into the vial, so that is the line to read first on this certificate. Purity of water is near-meaningless on its own.
The certificate also identifies the benzyl alcohol preservative and reports its content (labeled 0.9%), which is what makes the water bacteriostatic and lets a reconstituted vial be drawn from more than once.
What's in the Vial
Sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as the bacteriostatic preservative, in a 10ml multi-dose vial. The low pH is a property of the water itself, not an additive, and it is reported on every lot’s certificate alongside the benzyl alcohol identity and content.
